Hi there and welcome to The Parenting Clubhouse Podcast! Today we are continuing with Part 3 of the Gearing Up for School series. We’ve talked about morning routines and we’ve talked about bedtime routines. Today we are going to cover after school routines. Let’s dive in!
First thing is first. After school routines will look differently depending on your child’s age, your child’s grade, your family routine, and ultimately, what each child needs out of his or her after school routine.
An after school routine can include a ton of different activities:
When planning out our child’s after school routine, we need to think about what needs to get done and how long each task should take. Snack time will be shorter than homework time and chores. We need to make sure that we give our children enough playtime and downtime so they can recharge their brains.
We also need to think about the order of the activities in the after school routine. For some kids, they need to have a snack right when they get home because they are starving! Some kids want to get their homework out of the way, and they’ll accomplish that first thing. Other kids needs to have some downtime so they can recharge before they are able to jump into the homework.
Whatever your child’s after school routine, it’s important to be consistent and to follow the schedule. Remember, doing so will help your child be successful!
