The Parenting Clubhouse Podcast Episode 67: Setting & Accomplishing YOUR Parenting Goals

Hi there! Welcome to part two of setting your parenting goals on The Parenting Clubhouse Podcast! In case you missed it, last week we talked all about the concept of setting parenting goals for ourselves. Why? Because if we desire and want to see real change in our lives, whether that be in our parenting style, in our homes, in how we feel about our parenting, with our child’s behavior, or any number of things, then setting parenting goals is the ticket to help us get to be that more positive parent, help us have a more joyful home, help us feel confident in our parenting, help us see improvements in our child’s behavior, or whatever outcome we are shooting for. Today, part two is the actual meat of setting parenting goals, it’s the how-to. We’re going to take that outcome that you desire, turn it into actionable steps, and turn it into a goal that will help lead you to that success. So, grab your notebook and pen and let’s get cracking to setting that parenting goal!

Now let’s do some goal setting!

If you haven’t listened to episode 66 go do that now, because in that episode we lay the groundwork for putting pen to paper and creating our parenting goals.

Think back to that outcome that we want to create: being a positive parent, having a household that runs smoothly, addressing your child’s unwanted or inappropriate behaviors.

How are you going to get to that outcome?

If you want no yelling, you may need something to replace the yelling because it’s likely that you’ll end up yelling anyways when your kid spills juice all over those floors you just cleaned.

If you want less chaos in your morning routine with the family, then something is going to need to change each morning (or even the night before) to help make that morning routine less chaotic.

How you’re going to get to that outcome is what your goal actually is, and you can create that successful goal with these important tips:

Define your goal. Be clear and concise.

Start small and simple, then modify your goal as you improve.

Measure your progress with your goal. How are you performing?

Be consistent and motivate yourself to accomplish your goal.

If you want less chaos during the morning routine, more peace and order during that time, your goal may be: “I will create less chaos during our morning routine by prepping lunches and clothes the night before and waking up 30 minutes earlier than the rest of the family.”

But, if you haven’t done the groundwork, if you haven’t figured out what outcome you want, start there. Once you know that, work your way backwards to figure out how you will get there.
